Heritage lighting is an ideal alternative to more standard street lighting units and as a result is often favoured in areas which a rich cultural heritage.
Malleshwaram is one of the oldest neighbourhoods in Bangalore and regarded as the cultural and traditional hub of the city. A well known area, it houses some of the oldest buildings, educational institutions, temples and lakes. When local MLA (Member of Legislative Assembly) Dr Ashwathnarayan decided to upgrade the public lighting system in Malleshwaram, maintaining the traditional look and feel of the streets was critical to the project
A forthright green energy supporter, Ashwathnarayan reviewed a number of potential lighting companies before short-listing two, one of which was Carbon Reduction Technology. Extensive trials were conducted with the Carbon Reduction Technology heritage lighting units and alternative units from the competing company. Following superb feedback from the engineering team, members of the public and the local media, Carbon Reduction Technology was awarded the contract. Following the successful installation of 83 heritage lighting units on 15th Cross, Malleshwaram, the next sector to undergo upgrades will be Mysore Lamps Road with 80 new 24W heritage units replacing the old 150W street lights. The ongoing heritage lighting upgrades facilitate a 84% saving in energy consumption and CO2 emissions.
